FAQs
Before You Pack Your Bags
We know many of you are traveling halfway across the world to celebrate with us, some for the first time ever. That truly means so much to us. We’ve put this together to help you feel prepared, comfortable, and excited for everything ahead. No stress. Just come ready to celebrate, and we’ll take care of the rest.
Travel Essentials
Do I need a passport?
Yes. It should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates.
If you don’t already have one, apply early. If yours is close to expiring, we recommend renewing it now. Processing times can take longer than expected.
Do I need a visa?
Yes. You’ll need to apply for an e-Visa before traveling.
You can apply here: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html
It’s a simple online process, and we recommend applying 2 to 3 weeks in advance so it’s one less thing to think about.
Where am I flying into?
You’ll be flying into Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD)
When should I arrive?
We recommend arriving at least a day before the first event so you have time to rest, adjust, and settle in. We suggest arriving on the morning of the 13th or the 14th.
How long is the flight from the U.S.?
Travel time is typically 18–24 hours total, depending on your route and layovers. Common layover cities include Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and London.
What can I expect at immigration upon arrival in Hyderabad?
After landing, you’ll go through immigration where your passport and visa will be checked. The process is usually straightforward, but lines can take some time depending on when you arrive.
Make sure you have your passport, visa, and any arrival details easily accessible. Once through, you’ll collect your bags and head through customs before exiting the airport.
What’s the weather like?
December in Hyderabad is warm and pleasant, with daytime temperatures in the high 70s to low 80s °F and cooler evenings in the 60s.
Light, breathable outfits for the day and a shawl or light layer for the evenings will be perfect.
What to Wear & Where to Shop
Indian weddings are all about color, celebration, and showing up a little extra. This is your moment to wear something you normally wouldn’t.
Each event has its own theme, so here’s a guide to help you plan:
Sangeet: Jewels of Nizam
A night inspired by Hyderabad’s royal heritage. Think rich, regal, and a little dramatic, in the best way.
For women: Lehengas or shararas in jewel tones, like emerald, ruby, sapphire, and deep plum. The more rich and royal it feels, the better.
For men: Sherwanis or suits in deeper tones with a structured, polished look. Think classic, elevated, and slightly regal.
Haldi: Holi Aya Hai
This one is all about joy, color, and letting go a little.
Dress code: All white indo-western wear (with optional subtle color accents)
We’ll also be celebrating with Holi, so:
- Wear something you’re completely okay getting messy in
- Think breathable, comfortable, and easy to move in
A gentle note: Please avoid shorts and t-shirts. We’d love to keep the look elevated while still being fun and relaxed.
Wedding Ceremony: South Indian Traditional
This is the most meaningful and traditional part of the celebration, and we’d love to honor that through attire and presence.
For women: Sarees are strongly encouraged. Silks or traditional styles are wonderful if you’re open to them.
For men: Dhotis, or other traditional attire, are preferred. If that feels unfamiliar, a more traditional or formal outfit works as well.
A note on the Muhurtham (ceremony timing)
In South Indian weddings, the ceremony is centered around a specific, auspicious time called the muhurtham.
Our submuhurtham is at 9:30 AM on December 16, which is the most important moment of the ceremony.
We kindly ask that you:
- Plan to arrive 30–45 minutes early
A few quick things to keep in mind
- You may be asked to remove your shoes before entering the ceremony space
- This is a more traditional setting, so modest, elegant attire is appreciated

Food & Water
Can I drink the water?
We recommend sticking to bottled or filtered water, which will be available everywhere you’ll be.
Will the food be spicy?
There will be a range of options, from mild to spicy, so you’ll have plenty to choose from.
Money & Logistics
Do I need cash?
It’s helpful to carry a small amount of Indian Rupees for tips or small purchases, but most places accept cards.
Will I have phone service in India?
Check with your carrier for an international plan, or you can purchase a local SIM card at the airport.
Do I need an adapter?
Yes. India uses different plugs, so bring a universal adapter.
Time & Travel Adjustment
What’s the time difference?
Hyderabad is about 10–12 hours ahead of the U.S., depending on where you’re coming from.
Any tips for jet lag?
Take it easy your first day. Hydrate, get sunlight, and don’t over-plan anything right away.
Gifts
Are Gifts Expected?
Your presence is truly the best gift. We can’t wait to celebrate with you. No gifts expected.
Travel and Accommodations
Where should I stay?
We’ll be sharing accommodation details and recommendations after RSVPs close on June 30th.
This will include suggested hotels and options to make your stay as seamless as possible.
For now, no need to book anything yet. We’ll guide you through it soon.
How will I get to the resort?
Closer to the wedding, we’ll share the best and most reliable ways to get to the resort from the airport and recommended hotels.
If possible, it would be really helpful if you could share your travel itinerary with us once your flights are booked. This will help us coordinate and guide everyone more smoothly.
